San Luis Obispo County and surrounding areas are the perfect place for an equestrian lifestyle. With miles of trails winding through canyons and wine country, breathtaking scenery with ocean views and nearly perfect year round weather, what more could you want?
The area has a rich equestrian history, steeped in the legends of cowboys and early Spanish settlers. From trail riding to competitive sports and working ranches to equestrian neighborhoods, there are great options for the horse lover.
One of my favorite ranches is Miller's Equestrian Center & Sanctuary. Miller's is a no-kill, non-profit rescue facility where unwanted and abused horses are taken in, evaluated, rehabilitated and re-trained for use in recreational activities for children, therapeutic programs and for adoption. If you are a horse enthusiast, this is a wonderful place to support though volunteer work and donations. Another great rescue organization in our area is Heaven Can Wait.
